2027 Honda Passport Trims Explained for western Pennsylvania Drivers: RT-L, TrailSport and Elite
Pricing for the 2027 Honda Passport starts at $45,195 for the RT-L, $49,995 for the TrailSport and $53,695 for the TrailSport Elite. Two factory versions sit between them: the RT-L Towing (+$700 for a Class III hitch) and Blackout (+$1,500 on either TrailSport). Every version has the same 280-hp V6, 10-speed automatic, all-wheel drive, 5,000-lb towing rating and full Honda Sensing. What $4,800 more buys on the TrailSport is trail hardware; what another $3,700 buys on the Elite is cabin comfort.
Around Moon Township, the Passport trim question is about hills, winter and the occasional trailer. Every trim has all-wheel drive, hill start assist and hill descent control. The TrailSport adds a hitch, all-terrain tires and clearance.

The Trade-Offs of Moving Up a Trim
Most dealers only tell you what you gain. Here's what you lose.
RT-L to TrailSport
- Real leather. The TrailSport uses HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth; the RT-L has leather-trimmed seats.
- Interior color choice. The RT-L offers black or gray; the TrailSport is black only.
- Fuel economy: 19/25/21 mpg becomes 18/22/20, a 3-mpg drop on the highway.
- Headroom: front drops from 40.5 to 39.1 in. and rear from 40.7 to 39.6 in., and passenger volume from 119.1 to 115.4 cu ft.
- Departure angle: 27.1° on the RT-L versus 25.3° on the TrailSport, which trades some departure angle for its 25.4° approach angle and 9.6 in. of clearance.
- Low-profile height: the TrailSport stands 74.5 in. tall versus 73.1 in., worth checking if you add a roof box.
- Tire speed rating: the all-terrains are T-rated (113T) versus the RT-L's H-rated all-seasons (110H).
- Curb weight rises 198 lbs, from 4,478 to 4,676.
TrailSport to TrailSport Elite
- Orange ambient lighting gives way to white, though the steering wheel keeps orange stitching.
- The matte Shark Gray wheels are replaced by Berlina Black machine-face alloys.
- Curb weight rises 29 lbs to 4,705. Nothing functional goes away.
Standard to Blackout
- The standard wheel finish. Blackout wheels are black alloys on both TrailSport trims.
- $1,500, for appearance only. Capability and features don't change.
What Each 2027 Passport Trim Includes
The RT-L list covers standard equipment. Each trim after it shows only what it adds.

Five Passport Comparisons, Settled
RT-L vs. RT-L Towing
$700 buys the factory Class III hitch with harness and hitch panel. Both are rated for 5,000 lbs, but the rating assumes proper hitch equipment. Towing requires hitch equipment, and the Towing version has it from the factory. If you'll ever pull a trailer to the Ohio River launches or a campground, it's the simpler route.
RT-L Towing vs. TrailSport
$4,100 apart, and both have a factory hitch. The TrailSport adds clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates and TrailWatch, plus a moonroof, heated wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L Towing keeps leather, the gray interior option and better highway mileage.
TrailSport vs. TrailSport Elite
Same trail hardware, $3,700 apart. The Elite's case is comfort: ventilated fronts, heated rears, perforated leather, Bose, a hands-free liftgate and automatic wipers.
TrailSport Blackout vs. TrailSport Elite
Only $2,200 apart, these are a style-versus-comfort decision. The Blackout gets the darker look; the Elite gets the comfort upgrades but keeps standard trim. You can have both in the Elite Blackout.
TrailSport Elite vs. Elite Blackout
The last $1,500 is cosmetic: black wheels, badges and skid garnishes on an otherwise identical TrailSport Elite.
What Honda Changed for 2027
Higher TrailSport ride height
Honda reengineered the TrailSport suspension for 9.6 in. of ground clearance (8.3 in. on the RT-L) and better approach, breakover and departure angles.
A new TrailSport face
Bigger fender flares, a darker resculpted lower fascia, a reshaped front skid plate and amber LED hood lights.
More standard TrailSport equipment
TrailWatch and a heated steering wheel, previously TrailSport Elite features, are now standard on the TrailSport.
Darker Blackout
Black front and rear fascias join the Blackout package's black wheels and badges.
Smoke Blue Pearl
A new blue replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl on all trims.
Higher prices
MSRP is up $245 on the RT-L, $1,345 on the TrailSport and $1,045 on the TrailSport Elite.
How to Test-Drive a Passport in western Pennsylvania
Book back-to-back drives and use these to compare trims on roads you actually drive.
- Towing? Bring your trailer's plug type. The TrailSport hitch has a 7-pin connector; check whether you'll need an adapter.
- Merge onto the Parkway West or I-79 and feel how the V6 and 10-speed pull. Set adaptive cruise and let it follow traffic.
- If you can, take both trims toward the river roads along the Ohio. Listen for the difference between the RT-L's all-season tires and the TrailSport's all-terrains.
- On a hot day, try the TrailSport Elite's ventilated seats against the TrailSport's HondaTex. It's the clearest way to judge that $3,700 step.
- Fold the 60/40 rear seat and load what you actually haul: a cooler, a stroller, a kayak paddle. You get 44 cu ft behind the rear seat.
- Sit in the back seat of both. The TrailSport's moonroof costs about an inch of rear headroom; see if you notice.
- Pair your phone and sign into Google built-in during the drive so you're testing your own apps.
- Measure your garage door if you plan on a roof box. The TrailSport stands 74.5 in. tall before you add anything up top.
- Ask us to demo TrailWatch and the Multi-View Camera System in the lot. It's most useful nosing into a tight trailhead or a steep driveway.

Passport Trim Questions, Answered
How many 2027 Honda Passport trims are there?
Three trims, RT-L, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite, plus three factory versions built on them: RT-L Towing, TrailSport Blackout and TrailSport Elite Blackout.
How much is a fully loaded 2027 Passport?
The top version, the TrailSport Elite Blackout, is $55,195 MSRP. The lineup starts at $45,195 for the RT-L. Add $1,595 destination and $455 for premium paint.
What is the difference between the Passport RT-L and TrailSport?
The TrailSport adds off-road hardware: an off-road-tuned suspension with 9.6 in. of ground clearance (vs. 8.3 in.), all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch cameras and a factory hitch. It also adds a panoramic moonroof, heated steering wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L keeps leather-trimmed seats, a gray interior option and better fuel economy. The TrailSport costs $4,800 more.
What's the difference between the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite?
Comfort. The Elite adds perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, Bose audio, second-row climate controls, a hands-free liftgate, rain-sensing wipers and sunshades for $3,700 more. Off-road equipment is the same.
What is the 2027 Passport RT-L Towing?
It's the RT-L with a factory Class III trailer hitch with harness and hitch panel, for $700 more. Every other feature matches the RT-L.
What is the Passport Blackout package?
Offered on the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite for $1,500, it adds black 18-inch alloy wheels, black Honda badges and black front and rear skid garnishes. It doesn't change equipment or capability.
Does every 2027 Passport have all-wheel drive?
Yes. i-VTM4 torque-vectoring AWD is standard, with Trail Torque Logic and seven modes: Normal, ECON, Sport, Snow, Tow, Trail and Sand.
Can the 2027 Passport tow a camper or boat?
Up to 5,000 lbs on any trim when properly equipped. The RT-L Towing and TrailSport trims come with a Class III hitch from the factory; premium fuel is recommended above 3,500 lbs.
Which Passport trim should I get for driving around western Pennsylvania?
For paved drives like the river roads along the Ohio, any Passport works, and the RT-L's all-season tires and mileage suit them. For gravel game-land roads, the TrailSport's clearance, all-terrain tires and skid plates are worth it.
What is HondaTex?
It's the durable synthetic leather Honda uses, with cloth, on the Passport TrailSport's seats. The RT-L uses leather-trimmed seats and the TrailSport Elite uses perforated leather.
Is the 2027 Passport a three-row SUV?
No. It seats five in two rows. Honda's three-row SUV is the Pilot.
How much ground clearance does the 2027 Passport TrailSport have?
9.6 inches, versus 8.3 inches on the RT-L. Honda reengineered the TrailSport suspension for 2027.

What engine does the Passport TrailSport have?
The same engine as every Passport: a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 hp and 258 lb-ft, paired with a 10-speed automatic.
Does the 2027 Passport TrailSport have a heated steering wheel?
Yes, new for 2027. The TrailSport Elite has one too; the RT-L doesn't.

What is the 2027 Passport's cargo space?
